I will be updating this section of the website as frequently as physically possible, to keep everybody informed of daily life, special events and other personal news. A way of contact for the future, so to speak. With the new design fully implemented I can concentrate on updating the content as regularly as possible. I will archive the blog each month, so you can back track if needed, and read back on any interesting bits you may have missed. I will also try to include photos as and when appropriate and any running entries will be archived separately so it will be easier to find specific categorised items. 17/10/05 - Monday 17th October 2005 So an update on life in middle-england is needed, nearly a 2 week break between entries in my blog as so much has been happening to keep me busy and on the proverbial toes. I'll update you on the topics covered in my last entry first so as to clarify some questions that I put up and some mysteries that needed solving. Firstly my timetable is hugely busy - as I've figured out, with 17 hours "contact" time followed by 15 hours of "self-study" a week - where's the room for cooking a gourmet meal? Although I did do a stir fried chicken noodle supremacy last week which was delicious! Hopefully the piano practise is going into my memory now as I am now queuing for the use of one (probably due to the fact that other freshers have found the "tucked-away" practise rooms. Weekends are usually not busy though - and depending on the time you go, you can usually get onto one to practise those lovely harmonic scales! In keeping with my updating of events that are mentioned in the last entry, the PJ party was hilarious, culminating in a competition for the woman to win a day modelling for a well known clothing firm (who cannot be named for legal reasons), details of the competition requirements are too graphic and considered too "adult" to post on such a "family orientated" website. I eventually went for the greyish PJs and dressing gown - not too loud, yet not too quiet (most of the lads simply went in shirts and pants!)
Included left is a picture of me during freshers' week, where, yes I was sitting on a fridge wearing a "freshers' t-shirt" - luckily you can see the purple stain running down the back of it from bopping too much on the dance floor! So, new news for this week... Starting from the most recent to as far back as I can remember (in other words - the inverse of the chronological order of events), the weekend was very quiet, due to the lack of people. 13 out of the 18 sharing my kitchen visited their families for the weekend, so the 5 of us left were having a blast in the coolly clean kitchen! Sunday, was the usual roast dinner at the union's Xanana and seminar and lecture "self-study" day, where I desperately try to finish the mass of work I get from the 3 departments I am now "attached" to. Why 3 you may say - You are only doing German and Business Studies. - Surely that is only 2 departments I hear you cry. But yes, as always, life interrupts the logical assumption and gives you a module that requires the Economics departments help (as such I don't get a true "reading week" - basically a week of sitting on your a**). Anyway onto Saturday (as in the 15th of this month) I attended a fun packed "Pop Idol" like day for a job I applied for, completing "human bingo" tasks and acting out an advert (for the amusement of the employer). Unfortunately I didn't get the job - so that was a waste of that day, but Kayleigh (featured in the last entry) did, so at least both of our days weren't wasted for nothing! Saturday night was spent watching DVDs, catching up with Corrie and the usual time wasting things, like running around roots with yucca plant leaves playing "light sabers".
The rest of the week was the usual going out, staying in fun-filled affair, with tons of work thrown in! A visit from Daddy on Tuesday was a bonus! Anyway this entry has become far too long for its own good! Spread the word about my blog and as always Cya's soon! Comment on this Entry Comments (0)
04/10/05 - Tuesday 4th October 2005
As a new month and yet another week
begins my timetable is finally creeping its way out of the metaphorical mist, as
my lecture slots become clear.
Lectures are superb, ranging from the very serious to the very funny but solidly articulated and everybody here have the best of articulation, pronunciation and knowledge to support such lectures. Just today I had a tutorial based on a German film (Der Ehre der Maria Braun) and the ideas and flair that fellow students have for analytical and evaluative study is truly astonishing! Hopefully I can reach a standard in Quantitative Methods of Analysis and Economics that is required for my business course that includes differentiation and integration of mathematics! The picture selected shows me, quite intoxicated with that lovely free water from those nice guys at the union with (from left) Ash from two floors above, Kayleigh next door but one neighbour and Heléna - be sure to make that accent on the "e" count. She can be violent! I'm sure I'll be posting more pictures of the gang as soon as I get a minute away from reading "Wo Warst du Adam?" by Heinrich Böll. For the time being there is not much to tell - although I still need to go to the Tesco nearby to get myself a small frying pan and some chicken, infact I might just do that now - oh the wonders of 24 hour shopping! Cya's soon! Comment on this Entry Comments (0) |
