"Weather-wise it's such a lovely day..."

...and boy is that true! It's an absolutely "wunderschöne" day outside, but just to take a break from revision and sunbathing I thought I'd come a write a quick blog for the past week. The picture below was taken this morning in awe of the sublime sun that now streams through everybody's windows... except mine of course... stupid south facing room! ©2006. So apart from the usual... i.e. revision, TV, work and general going-out, what have I been up to? Well to be fair, not a great deal. This is why this blog is all about the pictures and not, as you will see, the happenings of the week.

In order to wind-down on nights that aren't bar-work or going-out related a nice cup of tea/hot chocolate/cappuccino is usually the solution. As you can see in the picture to the right, I usually do this by smirking (otherwise known as trying to keep a straight face when Ms. Walsh here does her "I'm very naughty" pose), whilst stirring my blue plastic spoon which melts as you pour the boiling water over the teabag and into my very festive mug. This was taken this week as a sample of such "nights-in", which, in all honesty are pretty rare...

...this is due to the simple fact that I work a couple of nights a week behind the student union bar and the others are spent on the other side of the bar (namely as a consumer)... This practise however, which started as a result of "Fresher's Festival 2005" (where a run of 15 nights out without a break in the hangover/drunkness) has slowed down as of late and as such working behind the bar (as an employee of the union) gets ever more boring as there is simply nobody to serve! The intrinsic effect of the longer days and higher revision loads!

With that little nugget of information and insight, which I'm sure made your day(!), I'll leave you with the view from my window as of 10:00 hrs this morning...

"The Devil Makes Work For Idol People..."

Good Morning/Afternoon/Evening (delete as appropriate) to all. After a month and a half away from blogging, I'm back with a lovely update on life in the midlands. Easter holidays were simply fantastic, with a bundle of family-related parties, dramas and gossip to keep me entertained. Easter truly is a wonderful time of year for Uni students. ©2006. All rights reserved. andyholland.co.ukNot only do they (we) get a ridiculously huge time off from work (or in my case university work that is substituted by working for Saints RLFC) but also we still are young enough to enjoy the humongous amount of Easter eggs, chocolate and sweet goodies that can be transported back to the humble accommodation that are halls of residences. (Currently filling my topshelf with sweet smelling goodness).

So just a quick recap of Easter before a news update on happenings since I arrived back at Warwick... Since Easter was basically a humble rest for me from the madness of the past 6 months and most of all a rest from alcohol, many exciting things didn't happen as I divided time between getting up in the afternoons and watching TV, not to mention working 13 hours straight for Saints one of the days! Always a fun shift and a little addition to the financial status of us poor students!

Towards the end of Easter however, the guilt sets in that you haven't done any Uni work at all and there is a mad, depressing rush to get all assignments finished before their deadlines. Fun nevertheless(!) This guilt however for lack of work was replaced by the guilt of feasting on so many chocolate eggs as a celebration of new life that is the Easter break! The middle of Easter was also my 19th birthday, thank you everybody who made this such a nice one! With this birthday came a stunningly weird prospect that childhood is out the window and in comes "conformity and sensibilities" (as you can see by the picture I've not quite got to grips with either)!

So with that quick recap of Easter over and done with, onto Warwick news... The day I arrived was (in my head) supposed to be quiet, but as the crazy I Block people usually do, they spring a nice surprise that we are to go out around the Royal Leamington Spa with the aim to hit (in Kryten 2X4B 523P's words) "mental states of incompetence by the repetitive consumption of fermented vegetable drinks". Unfortunately for the I Block posse this was not to be (even though the picture above contradicts this); Leamington was simply too busy for an effective night out to be completed. Nevertheless it was a lovely chance to catch up on Easter news before the real University work started again the following day.

Another catching up session was completed the following Saturday (22nd April) by myself and the Bar Staff at the Union. The fun-filled team set off trying to get the most people drunk as possible to increase the likelihood of tips. Yet again I was disappointed as the students held out and indeed tips (if any) were minimal! Nevertheless (an often overused word may I add) we all had fun cleaning up the contents of a few students stomachs from the floor in front of the bars! Similar experience to picking the dentures of an elderly lady out of a bowl of half eaten (and wasted) food that had been collected on a catering round with Maurine in the early weeks of my job as Catering Assistant during the 2004-2005 years in St. Helens.

Since then I have been concentrating on catching up with American TV shows, House, Lost, Invasion, 24 and with the new Doctor firmly in the role, I am hooked once again to the time-travelling stories. All this TV, as well as falling asleep with roller blades on (not under the influence of alcohol) is a balance to the imminent and very depressing exam time that requires a lot (and this time unfortunately not sarcasm intended at all) of preparation.

And on that note, I conclude this entry. Hopefully these little insights into the world of Andy Holland will enhance your day as you pursue your own little tasks that keep the world turning and your happiness glowing! Due to exams the blog may only be updated sporadically (but hey... what's new!)

Until Next Time... "Be Safe! Be Happy!"
