"A Long Time Coming..."

It certainly has been a long time since the last entry... I think perhaps the longest gap I've had since the 2005 'hiatus' (as the Americans so-oft use). The lack of 'blogging' is a testimony to the busy life that a typical student leads, whether that be purely work-related or the added 'fun' of socialising, TV, gaming (more later) etc. Nevertheless, due to immense demand (ok the one guestbook entry that asked for a blog update), I'm back with more of my quirky reflections on the world and reporting of news-worthy personal events (mainly due to the fact that I'm bored of a 4000 word essay and wish to divert my thoughts elsewhere.)

As usual, I'll begin by commenting on personal trivia since the last entry, which as it's been quite a while since the last post, is quite a lot... To begin with, the first assessed essay of the year came back, which was a disappointing 55% (2.2.) and although admittedly rushed toward the end of the Christmas vacation, it was a sad 'blip' in the middle of February and so began the sinking ship that is the second half of my degree.

However, not all is lost academically, as the remainder of the assessed essay contributions have received solid 2.1 qualifications. Naturally, this is a much better reward for the work that us students put in and has psychologically prepared me for up coming examination period.

Examination Time

With a birthday meal at a popular all-you-can eat Pizzeria now fading away into my memory banks, the prospect of end-of-year exams is becoming ever more easier to digest. Revision is slow at the moment, due to the impending assessed essays that had to be completed, re-drafted, polished and formatted by 12.00pm today. Luckily, this tedious task is over and I can now exclusively reveal that the hard-core revision begins here...

I've already had one oral exam, discussing the delights of Weimar Republic and the Third Reich literature and films, which I think went ok. But this is simply the start of the mountain of information I have to revise, in order to even pass forthcoming exams in German Language, Marketing and Industrial Relations.

Clubbing is banned

Although revision demands a certain lack of 'going-out' and as such disallows the repeat of the picture (right) I've nonetheless set aside routine enhancements to the day, which allow the brain to rest in between reading about 'Consumer Buying Behaviour' and 'Trade Unions'. These rest-periods are taken up by reading the latest Doctor Who novel, watching the latest Doctor who episode, or playing Singstar on Playstation 2.

Although Doctor Who merits most attention, I've decided instead to focus on Singstar. The reason for this is three-fold. Firstly, it has given me superb (perhaps ill-advised) confidence in my 'pop' singing ability; secondly, it has given the house a considerable focus for 'community spirit'. Getting together 'nearly' all my housemates in a 'party' game of battling karaoke has proved to be simply hilarious and is a far cry from sitting in the library on a Saturday from 9:30am - 6:00pm; and thirdly, I am planning a Doctor Who special blog entry to post some pictures from the superb (although relatively small) Doctor Who exhibition in Manchester, England. Watch out for this as the photos will be stunning!

Spiffingly British

As always, I must discuss the beautiful weather that middle-england has had as of late. Firstly, I'd like to draw your attention to the snow-covered delights of Royal Leamington Spa. Not only was this an emotional reminder of the sublime Ski-Tour 2006, but also gave me an opportunity to hurl snowballs at my housemates without them being allowed to be angry.

Not only have we been graced with snow, but also the Sun has decided to grace us with its humid presence. The result of which is spontaneous flip-flop, short/skirt wearing on the part of the ladies. Hilariously comical in my view, as I don yet another fleecy jacket and pull up those thick winter socks.

As usual however, the weather is set to be drizzly for the bank holiday weekend. Not that the having a bank holiday affects me now as lectures and seminars have ceased whilst revision time is used. Nonetheless it would have been nice to think the great British public is basking in a glorious 28.5°c temperature come Monday.

Well I leave with the news that Mr. Saxon* is set to become British Prime Minister on 27th June 2007. Is it me or is there something odd about him arriving in No. 10 undemocratically elected?
