December 2009
After a ten-month blog hiatus, Andy Holland returns to deliver further quirky reflections on life in the 21st Century. The internet is a global, interactive tool. My aim is to make full use of the two-way conversation it facilitates between me, the author of this blog, and you, the reader. With this in mind, I've placed easy-to-use comment links below each of the entries that appear on this blog. If you find an entry particularly engaging, interesting, funny, or thought-provoking, whether it is the latest one, or one from the archives, feel free to add a comment.

"Auld Lang Syne"
Thursday, 31st December 2009, 15:46 GMT
Another year, another decade, another chance to reflect.
As the end of the noughties nears, I thought it wise to pause for a brief moment and wish you all a very Happy New Year. Let 2010 bring less misery and gloom than popular opinion would have us assign to the latter years of the decade. Let the coming teenage years of the millenium bring global recovery, health and prosperity, and - perhaps most important of all - unreserved, positive action for Mother Earth.
For myself, three things have dominated in 2009: graduation, skydiving and unemployment. The first two of these I hope continue to influence my life in the years to follow; the latter, however, will likely remain a stain on 2009's estate. Come 2010, however, that stubborn stain will quickly fade as the next chapter of my life begins and this very website turns ten years old...
Wishing you all a fantastic New Year 2010!
"We will open the book. Its pages are blank. We are going to put words on them ourselves. The book is called 'Opportunity' and its first chapter is New Year’s Day." - Edith L. Pierce

"The Chocolate Challenge"
Tuesday, 1st December 2009, 19:00 GMT
I've set myself a massive challenge: one that will bring me to the very brink of my sanity.
I'm giving up chocolate and sweets. I'm leaving behind my Haribo and Wine Gum addiction; laying to rest my dependence on Cadbury's Dairy Milk.
For many people, a few sweets and a couple of pieces of succulent chocolate bring an added slither of joy to an otherwise dull day. For me, these divine treats are the primary influence on my mood, well-being and general ability to function. It's going to be an interesting twenty-four days.
That's correct: twenty-four days only. Come Christmas Day 2009, 25th December, this challenge will be complete. Providing I have a few brief moments of time throughout the month, I'll be updating you on my progress here and via Twitter.
